The Elk Rapids Business & Professional Women’s Club (BPW) received two awards recently.
- The Anna Howard Shaw Award was presented to the Elk Rapids Business & Professional Women’s Club for their program of work accomplished this year. Laura Schmidt, President and Melanie White, Vice President Accepted the award from Debbie Mesler of Cheboygan, the Award Chairman at the Michigan Business & Professional Women’s State Convention held recently at the Boyne Mountain Resort. It is given to local organization that does the best job of implementing and documenting a well-rounded program during the year. Judging is based on unusual service to the federation and the community, interpretation of the federation’s objectives, and adherence to the State and National Legislative platform.
- Nan Bowman received the Harriet A. Myer Award for her year long commitment to two of the organization’s programs- “The Reality Store” and the “BPW Fishpond.” This award, an engraved silver bowl is presented annually by the Jackson BPW at the Annual state convention in memory of Harriet A. Myer, Past State President (1973-74). Nan has been in charge of coordinating and scheduling the Reality Stores in ten or more schools throughout the year. Nan has also coordinated the summer-long Fish Pond activities during Wednesday Evenings on River Street for the past several years. Source: BPW press release, May 24, 2009
