NMC might go smoke free

Smoking_Logo Northwestern Michigan College’s Board of Trustees will have a preliminary discussion Monday on a recommendation that they adopt a tobacco-free policy for all of NMC’s properties.

NMC currently does not allow smoking within 15 feet of its buildings. If Trustees approve the policy as recommended, all NMC campuses would become smoke-free and tobacco-free in the fall of 2010.

No action will be taken at Monday’s meeting. If Trustees decide to adopt a policy, it could be considered on a first-reading basis at the October 26 meeting, with a second reading and final approval at the November 23 meeting.

The discussion will occur during the NMC Board of Trustees regular meeting, which begins at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 28, in the Oleson Center on NMC’s Main Campus. All Trustee meetings are open to the public. (Source: NMC press release, 9/25/09
