Here are my notes/highlights from tonight’s Village Council meeting.
Excellent: The auditor gave the Village a top rating, saying that it has good controls in place.
Passed: The 6-month moratorium on the permitting, licensing and approval of all land uses associated with medical marijuana. I thought the phonetic spelling (marihuana) was cute.
Postponed, sent back to Planning Commission: Off-street parking: surfacing
The free concert, sponsored by Seed Gallery, scheduled for Friday, August 13 on the back porch of The Place was approved, subject to the resolution of concerns about trash pickup, liability insurance and other issues that came up at the meeting. Village Manager Bob Peterson will monitor the situation.
Approved: A balloon archway will be created on River Street. for Harbor Days, by Tina Wentworth, working with the Chamber of Commerce.
Authorized: Professional staining of the Library Bridge, which will probably happen this fall.
Ongoing: Search for a new Police Chief. Six finalists will be interviewed on August 7 and 18.
- The Art Rapids concert, which was postponed early, has been rescheduled for August 10. The Council approved the change.
- A Walkability Audit takes place on August 16. Council and Commissioners will focus on Ames/Dexter/U.S. 31 area. Public is invited although it will be difficult for a large group to participate effectively. It is very important that the public attend a presentation of findings at 7 p.m. at Government Center. Plan to be there.
