Last night was special. For one night only, we could reminisce about a true legend of country music – Patsy Cline.
Led by the remarkable musical stylings of Joanie Stanley, who was backed by the other members of the Blue Shadow Band, we heard those legendary songs again. Ms. Stanley not only sang masterfully and from the heart but she also narrated the life of Patsy Cline, punctuating each brief narration with Patsy’s signature songs.
The Blue Shadow Band, led by our own Jerry Byville and featuring Elk Rapids resident Dave Eggler on bass guitar, provided remarkable support for Ms. Stanley, playing the original song arrangements with technical perfection and consummate style.
The Historic Elk Rapids Town Hall provided a perfect setting for the evening, with its original hometown ambiance decked out with Christmas decorations, votive candles at the windows and a beautiful lighted “ice garland” across the front of the stage courtesy of Jan DiGiovanni. The newly redecorated office sparkled and the antique lobby chandelier glistened. A special thanks to our volunteers: Jan and Jim DiGiovanni, Catherine Allegrina and Ginny Hamilton.
Following the tribute, the band changed clothes and performed several Motown favorites, such as Midnight Train to Georgia. It was a great evening filled with some of the best music I have heard around these parts. Let’s get the Blue Shadow Band back here soon.
