Take tests to learn

booksHere is an interesting insight into learning that is particularly true for me. When I’m on my game, and in a class, I enjoy taking the tests, because I can focus on applying what I know to an interesting problem – assuming that it’s a good test.

Taking a test is not just a passive mechanism for assessing how much people know, according to new research. It actually helps people learn, and it works better than a number of other studying techniques.  NYT
