Because of the recent healthcare reform, my 25 year old nephew, who has a pre-existing condition that he has had from birth, now has health insurance for the first time in his life. It costs him $240 a month with an added deductible, and it protects him (and the rest of our family) from bankruptcy if he ever develops the worst-case scenario of his medical condition. When the law passed, he applied immediately for the insurance and he is now in the high-risk pool.
Folks who are trying to repeal all healthcare reforms refuse to consider this explicit one, which helps my nephew, opting instead to reject the whole package on very dubious ideological grounds. My support for healthcare reform is not based on ideology; it’s practical and personal.
