Because I could not attend last night’s meeting, I asked Greg Reisig, who did attend, to comment:
At first, Harbormaster Cheryl Werth and Village Manager Bob Peterson gave a brief presentation on the history of the project. Then we were divided up into groups, about six or seven per table. Each group was given a large sheet to write down all ideas.
Just about everyone there supported some form of courtesy docks. Most wanted floating docks with some on the east side of U.S. 31 and some on the west side. Many said that we should keep the number of docks small at first to see how it goes. There was a lot of good input and ideas. One group said these should be wooden docks to keep it uniform. One person offered praise for opening up the process to the public for ideas.
At the end it was not clear how these ideas would be used or who would make final decisions on the docks, but it was stated that the Downtown Development Authority (DDA) is now directly involved in the project.
Thanks, Greg. Prior posting
