The Elk Rapids Village Council met for their regularly scheduled meeting on Monday (3/7). Village President Dan Reszka welcomed Tom Emerson to the position of Chief of Police. Mr. Emerson arrived at his post earlier in the week.
During public comment, Elk Rapids resident Royce Ragland requested the Village submit a letter of support toward the nomination of Josephine Mandamin to the Michigan Women’s Hall of Fame in the area of environmentalism. Mandamin facilitated a blessing of the water at last year’s ER Green Days and was featured in Kevin McMahon’s documentary film, Waterlife. Beginning in 2003, the Anishinaabek elder began walking around the entire Great Lakes Basin to raise awareness of issues relating to water quality, a feat representing more than 17,000 km.
