Energy efficiency improvements

For local government buildings

Recently the Village of Elk Rapids and Elk Rapids Township applied for and were awarded a $40,000 grant from the Michigan Public Services Commission for energy audits and improvements in energy efficiency for several public buildings.

Here are the buildings audited and the projects identified.

Retrofit 84 T8 3 lamp fixture with higher output T8 lamp and more efficient ballast; reduce one lamp per fixture (Government Center)
High Efficiency Tankless Water Heater (DPW Building)
Heating System Replacement (DPW Building)
Insulate Attic Space (Wastewater Treatment Plant)

Elk Rapids Township Hall
Reduce Hot Water Temperature
Water Conservation Measures
Compact Fluorescent Lamps (Option #1)
LED Retrofits (Option #2)
High Efficiency Furnace (Basement/1st Floor Offices)
High Efficiency Furnaces (Auditorium) or just get one system for the building
Ceiling Insulation
T* Fluorescent Lighting

Elk Rapids Township Fire and Ambulance Building
Adjust Heating Temperature
Reduce Hot Water Temperature
LED Exit Sign
Programmable Thermostat & Ventilation Control
Outdoor Lighting Replacement
Compact Fluorescent Lamps
T8 Fluorescent Lighting
Destratification Fans (Thermal Equalizers)
Photovoltaic (PV) Solar Roof-Mount System
Water Conservation

Contracts are being sought for the larger projects, while local Public Works labor and casual labor will likely be used for smaller ones.

Thanks to the Village and Township for seeking and winning this grant, which will save taxpayers money from now on.
